Technology
“The Cannes Lions game” is created and played on 7scenes. 7scenes is a mobile and online platform to create, play and share GPS games and tours. With 7scenes it’s easy to set up location-based experiences that can have a range of different rules of interaction: from complex multi-user role playing games to interactive treasure hunts to media-rich cultural tours.
Check out the 7scenes website for more info.

Install 7scenes on your GPS-enabled mobile phone
First you need a mobile phone with java support like a Nokia N95, N96 or N82. The 7scenes application can be downloaded by visiting http://m.7scenes.com with the browser on the mobile telephone. There you will find a download link – click that link to automatically install the application.
Mobile internet
You will need to have mobile internet on your device, and a flat fee subscription to make sure the costs don’t run to high.
Application settings
After installing, you will need to make some configurations on the telephone: for the Nokia-type telephones these are as follows:
Open the “Application Manager“, select “7scenes”, and select ‘Open’. On the next screen, make the following adjustments:
Access point: Select the GPRS access point of your provider.
Network access: Select “Always allowed”
Multimedia: Select “Always allowed”
Read user data: Select “Always allowed”
Write user data: Select “Always allowed”
Positioning: Select “Always allowed”
The application will work without these settings, but you will get annoying popups, so it’s better to make these adjustments.
Starting up
When you start the application, you will be directed to the ‘Profile’ screen. Once you entered the username and password, the application will automatically log in, and take you to the main ‘Scenes’ screen.
The navigation works as follows: use the ‘softkeys’ (on the N95 the two blue buttons, right under the screen on the left & right) to show the main menu (horizontal, at the bottom) and the ‘options’ submenu (vertical, on the left – not all screens have an options menu).
After starting up you get to the ‘Scenes’ screen. You can select the Scene you want to play there. The main menu allows access to a small help page, a settings screen (sound volume, display brightness and so on)
Once you select a Scene (there should be 1 Scene “The Cannes Lions game”), you will be taken to the Scene navigation. When the GPS has established a fix, you will be shown a map, with the first point shown as a small blue marker. The “Options” menu allows you to zoom in and out on the map.
HowTo
The application works with ’5-way-navigation’: left-right-up-down-fire. Fire means pressing the middle button. The mobile app. has two different menus: horizontal and vertical which are triggered by resp. the left and right softkey (top left and top right keys). The vertical menu is always a sub-menu of where you are currently at.

Tips
- Should any popup appear – press ‘yes’. It’s most likely a question asking for some kind of connectivity. You can fix this ‘problem’ in the application manager. How? Just go back on this page…
- Not getting a GPS signal? This could be that your ‘Positioning server’ on your phone does not have an access point defined. On a Nokia go to: tools > settings > general > positioning > positioning server > access point. Access point should be your default internet connection.
- Playing the game and can’t find the map anymore? Press ‘menu’ and select ‘scene’.
- Don’t press the red button on your phone – the one that cancels calls. It will also quit the application.
- Application gone? You might have started another app this overlaying the game app. Hold the blue menu button for a few seconds – you can then switch back to the game app if it’s still running. If not just start it again. It will pick up where you left off.
- Should the application not respond. Unfortunately this can happen – try quitting with the red button – if that doesn’t work try restarting the phone itself.
